A Pauper Among Princes
Book one of the House of Draca series, A PAUPER AMONG PRINCES, is an LGBTQ+ fantasy manuscript. Currently being queried.
Fresh from a failed mission, Dreues Galeran is given one last chance to please his master. Her orders: Beguile the king of Luton, Ademar Draca, and teach him how to unlock the castle’s forgotten magic.
Dreues's master craves the power of elemental magic so she can resurrect magecraft, and he doesn’t dare disobey her while she controls his pelt—the totem that allows him to shift into a wolf. To ensure his compliance, she withholds his pelt and offers him five pills to ease the effects of being unable to shift. If he cannot teach King Ademar how to access the castle’s magic before he runs out of pills, he will die. But if he succeeds, his master will grant him full control of his transformational magic.
After receiving his command, Dreues leads a group of his master’s thralls through the woods to ambush Ademar near the border of Luton, wounding the king and killing his guards. Seizing his chance, he "rescues" Ademar and wraps his wounds, gaining an invitation to the castle and the king’s interest.
But Ademar’s knights are not as trusting as their monarch. While juggling the lieutenant’s suspicions and the council’s outright hostility, Dreues strives to prove his worth on a royal hunt, desperate to earn a place as the king’s confidant. However, more than friendship burns in Ademar’s eyes, and Dreues realizes he made a fatal mistake.
He’s falling for his mark.
And when the bargain Dreues made with his master is called into question, he must choose: continue his mission and risk his freedom, or follow his desires and risk his life.
About the Author
I write magical realism with a Scottish twist on European werewolves for readers who crave soft masculinity, evocative of K-pop culture. After enrolling in a human sexuality course at an all-girls university, I’ve been on my own journey of identity, one in which I exist between labels. This undefined state is the foundation for the manuscript’s queernorm society.
When I'm not frantically typing on my laptop, I'm deep in the pages of another author's novel, drawing portraits, painting with oils, crocheting, or crafting. Just kidding! I spend time pursuing creative outlets only when my boxer dog allows it. If I'm not writing or editing, nine times out of ten I'm taking him for a walk, getting covered in mud while playing in the backyard, or being used as a human pillow.
