Who Killed Samantha Toole? is a 50,000-word true crime novel. I was the copy editor for this project, and one of my core responsibilities was fact-checking.
This edit was completed following the Chicago Manual of Style but with Canadian spelling conventions.
As with every copy edit I perform, the author received a detailed style sheet upon completion of the project. In this case, the style sheet was unique in that I encouraged the author to deviate from the Chicago Manual of Style. Since it is a true crime novel that emphasizes exact times, I encouraged her to write out all times numerically. This best suited her manuscript.
After the copy edit was complete, Rose returned to me and asked for a proofread of selected chapters that had undergone extensive revision based on the earlier copy editing suggestions.
